AISI P20+Ni (also known as DIN 1.2738) is an upgraded version of the popular plastic mold steel grade 2311, designed to deliver enhanced performance and greater toughness. It is commonly supplied in a pre-hardened condition with a hardness range of 280-320 HB. The addition of 1% nickel improves its through-hardening properties, making it more suitable for demanding applications. P20+Ni is micro-alloyed and vacuum-degassed to ensure superior quality.
P20+Ni offers excellent machinability and is highly suitable for texturing and polishing applications. Its resistance to corrosion and its fine surface finish properties make it ideal for high-quality plastic molding. This steel also demonstrates good hardness, wear resistance, and uniformity throughout the material. Its vacuum-degassed nature ensures minimal impurities, making it a reliable material for precision dies and molds. The nickel content enhances its through-hardening ability, making it more durable in industrial applications.
AISI P20+Ni is widely used for manufacturing plastic mold dies in both small and large applications, especially in industries like automotive and consumer goods. It is also used in producing dies for plastic products, high-finishing plastic molds, booster plates for presses, die holders, shoe blocks for drop hammers, press cassettes, upsetter blocks, and various other dies and molds. Its versatility and high-performance characteristics make it suitable for both large-scale industrial and precise tooling applications.
