16 MNCR5

16 MNCR5

16MnCr5 is a low-alloy steel known for its excellent toughness, high tensile strength, and good wear resistance. It conforms to the European standard EN 1.7131 (DIN 17210) and is widely used in various industrial applications where a combination of high surface hardness and good core strength is needed. This makes it ideal for components that need to withstand both high stress and wear.

Steel Properties

16MnCr5 steel typically has a tensile strength range of 700 to 900 MPa (101 to 130 ksi), which can vary depending on the heat treatment process. Its yield strength ranges from 420 to 650 MPa (61 to 94 ksi), and the elongation is approximately 10-14% in the normalized or annealed state. After heat treatment, the hardness typically ranges from 170 to 217 HB (Brinell Hardness), ensuring a solid combination of hardness and toughness for demanding applications.

Application

16MnCr5 is extensively used in the automotive industry for manufacturing gears, shafts, crankshafts, and camshafts that require high strength and resistance to wear. It is also commonly found in mechanical engineering applications, such as heavy-duty gears, pinions, spindles, and other transmission components that must endure high loads and stresses. In general engineering, 16MnCr5 is used for making bolts, studs, hydraulic fittings, and structural components where a good balance of surface hardness and core strength is essential.
